2017 Graduate market analysis

2017 saw another significant year of growth in the graduate recruitment sector. There was a noticeable increase in the number of businesses looking to hire graduates, so competition for junior talent was at an all-time high.

Our efforts didn’t go unnoticed and we’re delighted to have once again made it into the finals of the National Business Awards, this year for Business Enabler of the Year, and finalists for the first time for Best Medium Sized Company to Work For at the IRP awards.

While we clocked up some pretty impressive statistics last year, we’re most proud to have helped over 200 businesses to successfully hire over 550 recent graduates. To see how your business compared to the rest of the market in 2017, we’ve compiled these numbers into a helpful resource.

Our Graduate Market Analysis provides valuable insight into graduate recruitment throughout 2017; including a breakdown of the average starting salary and gender representation in each of the sectors we work within.

We’re thrilled that our gender gap is diminishing year on year; gender representation showed a more equal split than the previous year in all but one sector. This is particularly impressive in traditionally male-dominated industries like IT & tech – so we really couldn’t be happier with our male / female split of 60% / 40% in this sector last year.

You’ll see that we also amassed some record-breaking statistics in 2017; receiving over 120,000 applications on our website and launching 550 new graduate careers.

Our average time to fill a role decreased from 18 days in 2016 to just 17 working days in 2017 – a statistic that keeps us well below the industry standard of 27.5 days

And best of all? We sustained a high probation pass rate of 94%.

You only have to take a glance at our year in numbers to see that 2017 was a fantastic year for Give A Grad a Go. We’re so looking forward to seeing what 2018 will bring – and launching even more graduate careers in the year ahead!
