February was Give a Grad a Go’s charity month – where we attempted to raise money and awareness for Mind charity through a variety of fundraising initiatives and activities.
Having worked with Mind ambassadors in the past, and seeing the great work that they do, we felt that Mind was the perfect charity to partner with for our charity month – so we started February with the view to raise around £500.
Each week in February, we challenged different teams within the business to raise as much money as they could – and they came up with a real range of ideas.
Here are some of Give a Grad a Go’s fundraising activities in February:
Will’s sponsored swim in Regent’s Canal
On a particularly cold February afternoon, Will Spilsbury heroically swam up North London’s Regent’s Canal. Will raised a huge £150 for Mind through both sponsors in our office, and external sponsors to our JustGiving page.
Ben’s cracker eating challenge
One of the more unusual challenges, several members of our team attempted to eat as many crackers in 1 minute as possible.
Unfortunately, no one was able to beat the Guinness World Record of 7 – it turns out it’s harder than it looks!
Claire gets pied
Our Team Leader, Claire Donaldson, bravely stepped up to the plate and let some of our team members pie her in the face – for a small fee, of course.
Luke’s leg wax
Client Services Executive, Luke Willoughby, may have regretted his decision to let us wax his legs, when half the office decided to contribute to the cause.
Bake sales
Over the course of the month, several members of the team baked up a storm, and treated the office to brownies, millionaire’s shortbreads, and rocky road, in return for a small donation of 50p or £1.
Sponsored fancy dress walk
Finally, the last day of the month saw our team walk across London (from our office in Shoreditch, down to Waterloo) dressed as the things that make us happy.
On the walk, we carried a range of Mind branded merch, including flags, banners and balloons.
Some of our favourite costumes included:
- Pyjamas / dressing gown
- Gareth Southgate
- Beer
In total, our charity initiatives raised… £793.96!
Charity month was a great way to not only raise funds for a great cause, but to spread awareness of mental health in the workplace.
Throughout February, we also posted a range of content on topics including ‘How volunteering can boost your employability’ and ‘How to create a CSR policy’.
Thanks to everyone who donated to our charity awareness month!
