Relocating for a job checklist

  • A lot of the stress of moving comes from logistics.

When relocating for a job, you need to be as organised as possible; this means planning your move well in advance, keeping to-do lists, starting packing with time to spare, and organising all transport, key pick up, and deliveries a while before moving day.

If you’re a graduate making the move to London, you might have a friend or family member who can help you out by driving you.

Even better, it might be possible to make a couple of trips home, so you don’t have to move all your things at once.

If you’re moving from abroad, it can be more difficult to move all your belongings at once.

To help you feel less stressed when relocating, make sure you pack only the essentials and look into the costs of shipping your items to the UK if possible.

If you’re moving away for a job, you’re likely to be extremely stressed on moving day, so make sure everything is as organised as it can be.

  • Your new employer will want to make the transition to a new city as smooth as possible; so will be happy to offer advice on where to live, the easiest commute, or moving tips.

Believe it or not, some companies will offer you a range of relocation services, and sometimes they can be very flexible.

If you’ve been asked to relocate for work, find out what services could be available to you from an employer.

If they don’t offer any aid with relocating, make sure you organise a reliable moving service; like Bekins Moving Solution.

Your new company may also be flexible with the start date, especially if you are moving from abroad.

Employers understand that if you are relocating for a job, getting adjusted to your new surroundings is vital; and will often be able to accommodate this.

  • When you relocate for work, make sure you spend time finding out the best area to live.

A quick online search will bring up advice, ratings and reviews of certain streets, areas, and boroughs; make sure you know what you’re looking for, as well as your budget.

If you know where your new office is located, plan out your commute and make sure you’re happy with the distance you’ll have to travel to work.
