In this Software Engineer role, you will be working for a UK-based, IT professional services company, building up your skills to become a Professional Engineer through the British Computer Society.

Our client provides professional services to maintain, develop and in some cases manage existing national or enterprise systems on which citizens depend. This involves exposure to a wide range of technologies and methodologies. Alongside, they have also developed their own Cyber Security management product!

The key to their staff becoming professional engineers is their ability to provide extensive training! They do this by rotating developers between projects to gain a broad set of technical, management and leadership skills that provides a broad base to their future career. They are looking to grow the team again and want staff that are hungry to join their ranks to become professionals in this industry.

Job description – Software Engineer
In this entry-level role, Software Engineers are responsible for building, developing, launching and maintaining systems, applications and platforms.

You will be involved in all aspects of IT professionalism, in the standards and quality processes required to deliver outcomes to customers and obtain the recognition of your achievement.

On joining, will enjoy a period of initial training for your first project which may be for any one of a number of customers, or focused on in-house product development.

When you join a project, you will continue to train and develop your skills in the relevant technologies after which time is made for general training ready to move to your next project to ensure variety in your first few years. There is the opportunity for rapid progress in terms of team and project management, design methodologies and technical skills.

Key responsibilities - Software Engineer
  • Building up your skills in programming, testing, cloud / data administration & project management.
  • Working in a professional environment to carry out tasks assigned to you by your project manager.
  • Developing your skills within the SFIA+ framework and in all aspects of the project so that you:
    • Have the confidence and competence to work with reducing supervision and to potentially take over a leadership role.
    • Develop your design skills.
    • Taking on guidance of colleagues and collaborating on task.
  • Gaining an understanding of professional methodologies, standards and quality principles that allow a team to work together to deliver a great outcome on time.
  • Progression will be based on performance and including the SFIA+ framework.

Job requirements – Software Engineer
  • Enthusiastic about the world of IT!
  • A history of academic excellence. You will be degree educated at a high level in a STEM subject or similar.
  • You will be passionate about technology and motivated to explore more into this sector.
  • An appetite for hard work, taking initiative, and being proactive in your own personal development.
  • Exceptional communication skills are vital.
  • Any experience in software development would be interesting but is not essential.
  • Able to handle change and working in a fast-paced environment.
