Career in property FAQs
-
There is no one way to start a property career – the same goes for every industry! But, the most popular route would be to complete a degree in a property or property-adjacent subject. This could be as an undergraduate, or as a postgraduate conversion after studying something unrelated. From here, you will have a great platform to impress employers, feel comfortable in a strong base of knowledge, and secure a graduate property job.
However, without a relevant degree, careers in property development or property management are not unattainable. There are other viable ways to enter the property industry, and our team is well-placed to help you pursue these. Apply for training schemes or property graduate schemes, and you can begin to work your way up from inside the industry. Estate agencies in particular are often offering entry level property jobs that do not require much prior experience.
Once you have a foot in the door, jobs in property development can offer great development and progression opportunities. Soon, you may find yourself progressing to graduate property consultant, and after into the realms of seniority. Many of these roles will be client-facing and sales-focused, giving you ample opportunity to grow your confidence and demonstrate your abilities. They are also likely to be target-based roles, which will give you constant opportunities to evaluate your own performance, and establish the speed at which you’re progressing.
As a result, starting a meaningful career in property will at the very least require you to have a certain set of skills. These include communication, being personable, confident, and able to meet specific targets.

Only you can answer this – we can just offer you the information to help make that decision!
If you’re looking at entry level property development jobs and unsure whether to apply, read on. Here are some of the key industry skills property jobs require, so you can decide if a career in property is right for you.
One of the key skills required for junior property development jobs is the ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues, and other professionals. To succeed in property opportunities, you’ll need to be sociable, personable, and instil your trust in clients to keep existing contacts. You need to ensure clients’ needs are met and acquire new business.
Property management graduate jobs are heavily sales-focused and target-based. You’ll need to use your initiative and be forward-thinking to spot potential sales opportunities and possess great negotiating skills to ensure sales are met and increase revenue. A can-do attitude is required. You may be tasked with convincing prospective clients that your company is the right one to handle their sale, relying on a combination of negotiation, marketing, and sales skills to achieve sales.
If you’re still unsure, you can always take a more cautionary approach. Applying for property development graduate schemes will give you a more introductory insight into how the industry functions. With these schemes, you’ll often be rotated around different departments or locations, and it is therefore much easier to establish whether it is the sort of role you’re interested in. If you’re an outgoing graduate who enjoys meeting new people, developing relationships, and working to targets, you should consider graduate property jobs. Check out our latest opportunities below!

The salary for UK property developers in the UK can vary widely depending on factors such as the specific role, location, company size, level of experience, and the state of the property market.
At Give a Grad a Go, we’ve found the average graduate salary for UK property jobs is around £31k, with a salary range bracket of £25k – £63k*. Notable junior property jobs include:
Network Engineer – £35,000
Associate Consultant – £32,500
Property Consultant – 27,500*
Whilst salary should play an important part in your decision-making, it shouldn’t be the determining factor. Property development trainee jobs will offer lower salaries due to the entry-level skill requirements.
However, the training and development opportunities provided as part of these kinds of property development graduate jobs usually outweigh the limited salary. Of course, such training opportunities will enable you to progress to a higher skilled, and therefore higher paid, role at a faster pace.
We understand the importance of transparency when it comes to salaries, so we always strive to display them on our job ads. If you aren’t sure what kind of salary is offered for your ideal role, explore the property tech jobs and property sales roles on our graduate job board to get a good picture of what’s on offer.
