Your Future Employer - Unilever

Unilever is one of the world’s leading suppliers of Food, Home, and Personal Care products with sales in over 190 countries and reaching 3.4 billion consumers daily.

Unilever has more than 400 brands found in homes around the world, including Dove, TRESemmé, Lynx, Lifebuoy, Shea Moisture, Persil, Domestos, Ben & Jerry’s, Magnum, Marmite, The Vegetarian Butcher, Graze, Vaseline, Sure, Wall’s, Colman’s and Pot Noodle.

Faced with the challenge of climate change and the desire for human development, we want to move towards a world where everyone can live well and within the planet's natural limits. That’s why our purpose is ‘to make sustainable living commonplace’.

What is the job? - Chemical Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6)

A Chemical Engineering apprenticeship within Unilever is a gateway to a dynamic career. You will be involved first-hand in helping our business thrive sustainably through the many well-known household brands that we produce every day.

By joining our engineering team as an apprentice, you will become part of our inclusive community of over 8000 of the most highly skilled engineers worldwide, spanning 320+ locations. By working together, supporting each other, and implementing the latest technology and design you will help to build ground-breaking solutions and innovations.

If you want to develop into your best self while being part of a global organisation that can take you in any direction, this is for you.

There are always new ways for our products to improve the lives of our consumers and have a positive impact on the planet. You'll discover what consumers want and develop the technology to make our innovations come to life.

Unilever apprentices follow a structured programme that allows you to put your science education and passion into practice while getting a degree.

Completing a Unilever engineering apprenticeship programme is a way to earn as you learn and fire up your career.

Apprentices will rotate through Unilever’s process engineering teams, getting exposure to different stages of our product development lifecycle, from learning about and developing new formulation technologies, scaling and optimising our manufacturing processes, deploying products to full-scale manufacturing in our supply chain, and helping to embed digital technologies into the heart of our innovations.

You will play a key role in aiding Unilever's Home and Personal Care innovation programmes to deliver superior-high-quality products to market.

While doing this you will study part-time at the University of Teesside. By the end of the apprenticeship, you will gain a BEng degree in Chemical Engineering in addition to your L6 apprenticeship.

What do we look for? - Chemical Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6)

We are seeking individuals who are curious and possess strong personal drive. The ideal candidate knows when to ask for guidance, is adaptable, and willing to try new things. A desire to be hands-on in a lab, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment and get stuck in is essential, along with a can-do attitude and plenty of passion. For a career in Unilever, you will need strong problem-solving skills and an eye for detail.

If you have these skills and are ready to take on new challenges, we would love to hear from you.

Day-to-day responsibilities - Chemical Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6)

As an engineering apprentice at Unilever, you will be working closely with our highly talented process engineers, supporting the development of new product innovations, unlocking efficiencies in our current operations, and solving real business challenges.

From being on the factory floor to the research lab you will get breadth of experience across all parts of our product development lifecycle. In addition to your work-based projects, you will have time away from your role dedicated to academic studies and personal development.

What support do we offer? - Chemical Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6)

During your apprenticeship, you will have regular contact with your line manager, project manager, and programme manager to make sure you are getting the guidance you need to do your role.

Recruitment fraud

Cybercriminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scans for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and acts to close them down.

What can I do?

If you become aware of potential recruitment fraud, spot fake Unilever recruitment adverts or fake LinkedIn profiles, report them via Una Live Chat.

Unilever does not accept responsibility or liability for any candidates who are financially impacted by recruitment fraud. Your vigilance is key!
