They conduct research projects, data modelling, and tests & trials in order to provide technical, commercial, and policy expertise, which will tackle the hardest challenges on the way to Net Zero.

Job description - Research Analyst
In this Research Analyst job, you will be joining a team of specialist energy consultants and analysts, who work to support the public sector and industry to decarbonisation.

You will work with partners to identify, analyse and validate information that can help transform the UK energy system to meet carbon reduction targets, while learning about commercial and competitive strategy techniques.

Using internal resources and external experts to develop an evidence-based analysis for partners, you'll be delivering advice and support to partners as part of their research & development strategy. The ideal candidate will be hungry to learn and develop their career in the low carbon energy environment!

Key responsibilities - Research Analyst
In this Research Analyst job in Birmingham, you will have a focus on numeracy, business performance and data visualisation. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing and implementing analyses to extract actionable insights from complex datasets, predominantly via Excel & Power BI
  • Identifying appropriate tools for analysing market intelligence for strategic insight
  • Performing exploratory data analysis to identify business trends and patterns
  • Identifying and harvesting pertinent data and evidence to form the basis for strategic decision making across the multiple business units
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide data-driven and evidential insights
  • Maintaining and improving existing data dashboards drawing on CRM data and provide meaningful insight to the relevant business units
  • Working with internal stakeholders to identify emerging trends which are relevant to the business units
Job requirements - Research Analyst
  • A strong academic background in a relevant discipline (e.g. STEM, Geography, Environmental degrees)
  • Previous experience in a similar position or in the Energy/Environmental sector is highly beneficial, however experience is not mandatory
  • Highly numerate with strong analytical skills, able to perform wider market and commercial analysis
  • Advanced Excel skills and exposure to data visualisation tools, such as Power BI and Tableau
  • Fantastic communication skills - someone who is able to confidently talk about their ideas and findings, and isn't afraid to challenge ideas
  • Genuine passion and commitment towards low-carbon energy solutions, and environmental sustainability - this must be demonstrated on your CV
  • Understanding of policies and issues relevant to the Net-Zero energy transition
  • Open-minded, resilient and intellectually creative
  • Good writing and presenting skills, capable of communicating engagingly, with accuracy & clarity
