In this Product Developer graduate job, you will be joining an organic FMCG brand established in 2007 that makes and distributes award-winning chocolate products! They aim to change consumer behaviour to encourage ethical consumption of chocolate that is healthy, vegan and fair trade, distributing their products across various health food channels in the UK, USA, Australia, France and Germany. The brand works closely with growers and farmers on-the-ground, ensuring that their cacao is ethically sourced and their chocolate is made from scratch. Based in Cambridge, this close-knit, bubbly team are now looking for an ambitious Product Developer to join their team!
 
 
Job description – Product Developer
In this Product Developer job, you will be the product champion, with a total focus on the constant evolution, development and improvement of products, new and existing, under the brand. Reporting directly to the Founder and Head of Marketing, you will also work very closely with colleagues in Sales, Marketing, Finance and Production, collaborating on projects and supporting with technical knowledge where needed. As Product Developer, you will have a lot of autonomy, bringing the opportunity to shape the role and our product development processes!
 
Key responsibilities - Product Developer
  • Researching trends and insights from available sources and looping back any potential opportunities to the commercial team.
  • Being a key driver for taking products from concept through to reality, which may include ingredients research, packaging ideas, contributing to specifications, etc.
  • Existing product development: continual process to assess their products (and how consumers perceive them) with a view to making improvements and cost savings.
  • Cacao supply: liaising with the team in Ecuador to continue our deep dive into understanding cacao, including areas such as flavour development, fermentation, sustainability, quality, etc.
  • New product development: working with the commercial team to establish NPD pipeline and then project managing this to achieve successful launches.
  • There is the opportunity for less formalised development too with limited editions throughout the year as well as a bit of time each week dedicated to ‘freestyle’ development!
 
 
Job requirements - Product Developer
  • A degree in a relevant subject e.g. Food Technology, Food Science, Nutrition, Dietetics, Product Design, Design Engineering etc.
  • Experience in a FMCG/food/beverage business is favourable
  • An interest in food/FMCG/branding/consumer behaviour
  • A passion for organic products, sustainability, ethically sourced products, and... chocolate!
  • An ability to thrive in the context of a high degree of autonomy is essential. This also
    means relishing the opportunity to create structure and processes.
  • You will need to be process driven and well organised.
  • The ability to be both scientifically methodical and fluidly creative at times.
  • A strategic, innovative and creative thinker.
  • Continuing with the spirit of the brand, we are looking for someone innovative who
    wants to find new and better ways of doing things.
  • An individual that thrives on team collaboration and interaction
  • You will need to be able to attend the chocolate factory NPD kitchen for four days per week - so someone with a hands-on approach is best suited!
